Varanasi is a city in the northern Indian state of Uttar Pradesh dating to the 11th century B.C. Regarded as the spiritual capital of India, the city draws Hindu pilgrims who bathe in the Ganges River’s sacred waters and perform funeral rites. Along the city’s winding streets are some 2,000 temples, including Kashi Vishwanath, the “Golden Temple,” dedicated to the Hindu god Shiva.
Haridwar: One of the holiest pilgrimages in India, Haridwar, or the ‘gateway to gods’, is located where Ganga, the sacredest of all Indian rivers, enters the Indo-Gangetic plains. Located at the foothills of the Himalayas, Haridwar is a city of temples and ashrams and its pious ambience envelops everyone. Haridwar is one of the four holy Indian cities that host the Kumbh Mela, a pious gathering of millions of Hindu devotees every 12 years. The Ardh Kumbh is organised here every six years. It also hosts the Kanwar mela every year during the rainy season. The ‘Panch Tirth’ or the five pilgrimages located within the periphery of Haridwar, are Gangadwara (Har Ki Pauri), Kushwart (Ghat), Kankhal, Bilwa Tirtha (Mansa Devi Temple) and Neel Parvat (Chandi Devi). Haridwar serves as the gateway to the Char Dham of Uttarakhand as well.
Mathura (or Brajbhoomi) is famous as the birthplace of Lord Krishna, an important deity in the Hindu religious pantheon. It is an important pilgrim place of the Hindus and one of the seven sacred cities in India. The main pilgrim center in Mathura is the Shri Krishna Janmabhoomi temple.
Vrindavan: is a holy town in Uttar Pradesh, northern India. The Hindu deity Krishna is said to have spent his childhood here. It’s home to temples, many dedicated to Krishna and his lover, the deity Radha. At Banke Bihari Temple, the curtain in front of Krishna’s statue is opened and closed every few minutes. At Radha Raman Temple, a gold plate beside Krishna signifies Radha. Prem Mandir is a huge white marble temple.
Agra: Located on the banks of River Yamuna in Uttar Pradesh, Agra is a popular tourist destination as it is home to one of the 7 wonders of the world, the Taj Mahal. It is a sneak peek into the architectural history and legacy of the Mughal Empire with two other UNESCO World Heritage Sites Agra Fort and Fatehpur Sikri. History, architecture, romance all together create the magic of Agra, and hence, makes for a must-visit for anyone living in or visiting India. Apart from its monuments, Agra has some exciting stuff for foodies. It is as famous for its Petha (a sweet made from pumpkin and flavored with rose water and saffron) as it is for the Taj Mahal. Agra is also well known for its marble artifacts which are best bought in the Sadar Bazaar or Kinaari Bazaar area.

Summer (April – June)
This season is usually avoided by most tourists as the temperature during the months of April to June could go as high as 45 degree celcius. The intense heat hinders all your travel plans, as you wouldn’t be able to witness the ancient architectural marvels of Agra-Mathura-Vrindavan that are best witnessed during the day. The Yamuna River also dries up in Summers not allowing devotees to take a dip. Hence, summers are best avoided.
Monsoon (July – September)
The monsoon months from July to September is an ideal time to visit Agra-Mathura-Vrindavan as the temperature is soothingly between 24-degree Celsius to 32-degree Celsius. This time of the year is also an excellent option to plan a trip to this holy city as the weather is agreeable and cold rain showers are a respite from the torrid summer. Clear skies over the Yamuna River with fresh water and serene ambience make Vrindavan beautiful. The entire city during this time of the year adds to the beauty of the ghats.
Winter (October – March)
The winter months from October to March is another ideal time to visit Agra-Mathura-Vrindavan as the temperature hovers between 5 – 27-degree Celsius. This is the best time to plan your trip since the festival of Holi is celebrated with great pomp. The famous Boat Festival in ISKCON temple, Diwali and Dussehra witnesses a vast crowd during this time. Plunge into the Yamuna river and witness the grand festivity of Vrindavan during Winter.
