Nepal is a landlocked country in South Asia. It is mainly situated in the Himalayas, but also includes parts of the Indo-Gangetic Plain, bordering Tibet of China to the north, and India in the south, east, and west, while it is narrowly separated from Bangladesh by the Siliguri Corridor and from Bhutan by the Indian state of Sikkim. Nepal has a diverse geography, including fertile plains, subalpine forested hills, and eight of the world’s ten tallest mountains, including Mount Everest, the highest point on Earth. Nepal is a multi-ethnic, multi-lingual, multi-religious and multi-cultural state, with Nepali as the official language. Kathmandu is the nation’s capital and the largest city.
Kathmandu is the largest city and capital of Nepal and the namesake of the Kathmandu Valley. Once thought to be the fabled and inaccessible Shangri-La, Kathmandu is now a hub for independent travellers as well as a growing vacation spot catering to all budgets. As a result of considerable urban growth in recent decades, it is now part of one continuous urban area together with Patan to the south and Bhaktapur to the east. You will enjoy clear, blue sky and White Mountains from any famous sites, of which it has many: a whopping seven UNESCO World Heritage Sites within few miles!
Pokhara, the ‘Tourist Capital of Nepal,’ is the second-largest city in this Himalayan country, after Kathmandu. At an altitude of more than 900m, it is one of the highest cities, making it the base for many world-famous treks. The highlight of the town is its Lakeside, which is a boating paradise flanked with charming shops, dreamy cafés, restaurants and pubs that make up this postcard-perfect town. The city is a beautiful contrast of the bustling Lakeside Pokhara and Old Pokhara, which is home to many beautiful historical temples and is also the city’s commercial hub. Phewa Lake (or Phewa Tal), a spectacular lake that borders Lakeside Pokhara and Old Pokhara, it flawlessly reflects the mountains that border it, making it a breathtaking photo-op. The old city houses shops where you can buy famous handicrafts, woodwork and woolwork. Don’t forget to visit the Tibetan Mini Market for one-of-a-kind souvenirs!

By Air
There are multiple flights from Delhi to Nepal on a daily basis, and many of them are direct. The nonstop flights are operated mostly by Air India, Jet Airways, Indigo and Nepal Airlines. Though, India to Nepal flight duration for these flights is around 1 hour 45 minutes, often the flights take longer to reach because of the layovers at Delhi. However, flights are the best means of transport to reach India from Nepal, especially if you are not from the northern part of the country.
By Train
The historic British-era Nepal train line running from Janakpur in Nepal to Jayanagar in India was shut down in 2014 and is currently under upgrade. Besides that, there are several India-Nepal railway lines, including ones connected with New Jalpaiguri, Jogbani and Nepalganj Road. For now, there is no direct India to Nepal train. However, Gorakhpur and Raxaul being the closest stations on the Nepal route, one can take trains up to there and make the rest of the journey by road. There are trains from Howrah Station near Kolkata to the Raxaul Junction at the border.
By Road
India to Nepal distance from Delhi to Kathmandu via roadway is around 21 hours. Coincidentally, this is also one of the better routes to get into Nepal. The most-used India-Nepal border is the one at Sunauli, Uttar Pradesh. This can be reached via Gorakhpur by train from Delhi. Other borders that can be used to get into Nepal are Raxaul which can be reached from Kolkata or Patna. Raxaul and Gorakhpur are the nearest railway stations to Nepal in India.
Summer Season in Nepal
Summer begins in the lower altitudes as mild and pleasant, with a temperature of around 22-25°C. But as days pass, it keeps getting hotter. Nepal weather in April is the last when it stays ideal for a visit. After that one should consider visiting in the autumn only.
Monsoon Season in Nepal
In Nepal, monsoon follows the hot summer months as a respite to the residents but is a source of worry to the travellers. From June to August and early September, clouds hover over the valley and bring rainfall in heavy showers all over.
Winter Season in Nepal
Up above in the high mountains, Nepal weather in December and January is about snowfall and occasional blizzards. But down in the valley, the trip can be enjoyed with some heavy jackets and scarves.
