Katra
Katra or Katra Vaishno Devi, as it is popularly known, is a small town in Reasi district in the union territory of Jammu and Kashmir, India, situated in the foothills of the Trikuta Mountains, where the holy shrine of Vaishno Devi is located. It is located 42 km (26 mi) from the city of Jammu. Katra serves as the base camp for pilgrims who visit Vaishno Devi. It has a thriving tourism industry that offers plenty of hotels, guest houses, restaurants, dhabas, fast-food joints that fit all kinds of budgets. Free accommodation is provided by some registered trusts in the form of “Sarais” for the poor. The number of pilgrims who visit the shrine every year has increased from 1.4 million in 1986 to 8.2 million in 2009. Over the years, a lot has changed, but main attractions include the “bazaar” (market) for buying souvenirs, dryfruits, woolen garments, hosiery, leather jackets, etc. To reach Vaishno Devi, the pilgrims have to register at Katra before starting the trek. By registering, the pilgrims get accident insurance up to 100,000 INR while on the trek of 14 km. There is another trek of 2.5 km from Vaishno Devi temple for Baba Bhaironnath. Electric Vehicles and helicopter services are available for pilgrims. A new ropeway system as just been inaugurated from the Vaishno Devi Bhawan to the Bhairon Baba Mandir, reducing the journey to time to just 3 minutes. The ropeway can carry 800 people every hour.

Srinagar
Srinagar is one of several places that have been called the “Venice of the East” Lakes around the city include Dal Lake noted for its houseboats – and Nigeen Lake. Apart from Dal Lake and Nigeen Lake, Wular Lake and Manasbal Lake both lie to the north of Srinagar. Wular Lake is one of the largest fresh water lakes in Asia. Srinagar has some Mughal gardens, forming a part of those laid by the Mughal emperors across the Indian subcontinent. Those of Srinagar and its close vicinity include Chashma Shahi (the royal fountains); Pari Mahal (the palace of the fairies); Nishat Bagh (the garden of spring); Shalimar Bagh, the Naseem Bagh. Jawaharlal Nehru Memorial Botanical Garden is a botanical garden in the city, set up in 1969.The Indian government has included these gardens under “Mughal Gardens of Jammu and Kashmir” in the tentative list for sites to be included in world Heritage sites. The Sher Garhi Palace houses administrative buildings from the state government.Another palace of the Maharajas, the Gulab Bhavan, have now become the Lalit Grand Palace hotel. The Shankaracharya Temple which lies on a hill top in the middle of the city, besides the Kheer Bhawani Temple are important Hindu temples in the city.

Gulmarg
According to CNN Gulmarg is the “heartland of winter sports in India” and was rated as Asia’s seventh best ski destination.  The town is accessible from Srinagar by road via Tanmarg The road climbs uphill in the last 12 kilometers to Gulmarg passing through forests of pine and fir. Winter sports like skiing, tobogganing, snowboarding and heli-skiing take place on the slopes of Mount Apharwat reachable by a Gondola lift.

Sonamarg
Sonamarg provides trekking routes leading to Vishansar Lake,  Krishansar Lake,  Gangabal Lake and Gadsar Lake in the Himalayas, which are stocked with snowtrout and brown trout. The Sind River meanders here and abounds with trout and mahseer. Ponies can be hired for the trip up to Thajiwas glacier, a major attraction during the summer months. The Yatra to the nearby Amarnath Temple begins in Sonamarg. Baltal, 15km east of Sonamarg, is a valley that lies at the foot of the Zoji La pass. Trekkers can also reach the city of Leh – known as “the rooftop of the world” – by crossing over the Zoji La.

Pahalgam
Pahalgam known as Pahalgom, is a town and a Notified area Comity in Anantnag District of the Indian Union Territory of Jammu and kashmir It is a popular tourist destination and Hill Station. Its lush green meadows and pristine waters attract thousands of tourists from all over the world each year. It is located 45 kilometres (28 mi) from Anantnag on the banks of Lidder River at an altitude of 7,200 feet (2,200 m). Pahalgam is the headquarters of one of the five tehsils of Anantnag district. Pahalgam is associated with the annual pilgrimage to the shrine Amarnath Yatra Chandanwari, located 16 kilometres (9.9 mi) from Pahalgam. The town is the starting point of the Yatra that takes place every year in the months of July–August, receiving hundreds of thousands of tourists. Because of its religious significance and role as a base camp, the town attracts 70% of visitors to the valley. This flood of tourists overwhelms some of the local infrastructure, especially waste management in the town.

After tea start your trek for Bhawan. Back from Mata Vaishnodebi in evening. Overnight stay in Katra.

Day 05: Katra-Srinagar
After breakfast proceed to Srinagar. Reach Srinagar in evening and check-in to the hotel. Overnight stay in Srinagar.

Day 06: Srinagar-Gulmarg-Srinagar
After breakfast drive to Gulmarg (Gulmarg is one of most beautiful snow point of Kashmir. Here it is world’s highest Gondolas or Cable Car). Back to the hotel late afternoon. Evening free for any individual activities. Overnight stay in Srinagar.

Day 07: Srinagar-Sonamarg-Srinagar
After breakfast drive to Sonamarg (Sonamarg had historical significance and was a gatewayon   ancient Silk Road along with Gilgit connecting Kashmir with Tibet). Back to the hotel late afternoon. Evening free for any individual activities. Overnight stay in Srinagar.

Day 08: Srinagar Seightseeing
After breakfast local sightseeing of Kashmir (Shankaracharya Temple, Mughal gardens,Hazratbal Shrine Mosque etc).Back hotel at lunch, after lunch enjoy Sikara ride in Dal Lake. Overnight stay in Srinagar.

Day 09: Srinagar-Pahalgam
After lunch drive to Pahalgam. Reach Pahalgam in evening and transfer to hotel.Overnight stay in Pahalgam.

Day 10: Pahalgam Seightseeing
After breakfast local sightseeing of Pahalgam (Aru valley, Betab Valley, Chandanwari).Back hotel at lunch. Evening free for individual activities. Overnight stay in Pahalgam.

Day 11: Pahalgam-Jammu Railway Station
After breakfast proceed to Jammu railway station for return journey. Lunch on way.Train at 22.45.

Day 12: In Train

By Air

Srinagar airport, now famously known as Sheikh Ul-Alam International Airport Srinagar, operates flights to the major cities of India like Kolkata, Delhi, Leh, Mumbai, Bangalore and Jammu. Some of the flights operated by this airport are IndiGo, Air India, GoAir and Jet Airways. Srinagar airport is located at a distance of 14 kms (approx) from the city centre. Jammu also has its own airport which is located just 8 kilometers southwest of the city of Jammu. All major airlines of India operate daily flights to & from Jammu City.

By Train

In the present time there is no railway station in Srinagar. The nearest railway station to Srinagar is Jammu Tawi Railway Station, which is located almost 300 kilometers away from Srinagar. Jammu Tawi Railway Station operates several daily trains to Kolkata like Sealdah-Jammu Tawi Express, Himgiri Express and Subidha Special.

By Road

Jammu & Kashmir enjoys a good road connectivity and can be reached by road. The National Highway (NH) 1 & NH44 connect Kashmir to major cities of India. The Jawahar Tunnel, which connects Jammu to the valley of Kashmir, also lies along this route. Buses operated by the J&K State Road Transport Corporation (JKSRTC) also connect Jammu to other nearby cities like Patnitop (110 km), Srinagar (264 km) and Amritsar (214 km).

Mar-Jun

Summer in Jammu starts from March and continues till May, with the temperature going as high as 45°C. The heat can be a little uncomfortable for some people, but tourists visit it during this time also. Summer in Kashmir is quite different than that of the rest of the country. It is marked by pleasant and comfortable weather. It begins in March and ends in June. Those visiting it from relatively warmer areas will find it cold enough for warm clothes. Jul-Sep

Monsoon season starts in Jammu & Kashmir from July to till September. During this period, all the parts of J & K receive heavy rainfall. But for the tourists, it becomes the best time to visit Kashmir valley, as during the monsoon, the lushness of Kashmir valley is particularly appealing. August is the perfect time to witness apple picking in Kashmir. The famous pilgrimage known as Amarnath Yatra also begins in this season.
