Madhya Pradesh can be described as the best state of the nation when it comes to the diversity of its tourism destinations. Madhya Pradesh is known as the “Heart of India” because of a lot many things that it has to offer. It has been home to cultural and spiritual heritage of almost all the religions. Innumerable monuments, intricately carved temples, stupas, forts and palaces are dotted all over the State. The natural beauty of the state is equally varied. Consisting largely of a plateau, the State has everything, from mighty mountain ranges to meandering rivers to miles of verdant forests. In fact a large part of Madhya Pradesh is under the forest cover, offering a unique and exciting panorama of wildlife. In the National Parks of Kanha, Bandhavgarh and Pench you can spot the tiger, bison and a wide variety of deer and antelope.

Water sports, caravan journeys, river cruise, sound and light shows, tribal life, Madhya Pradesh has everything for every travel thirsty soul. Romance with nature in the Marble Rocks of Jabalpur in the moonlight or lose yourself in the legend of the poet prince Baz Bahadur and his beautiful consort Roopmati in Mandu. Follow the trails of Prince Rama in Chitrakoot. Let the hands of time which have rested lightly on the chhatris, palaces and forts of Orchha and Gwalior, whisper the tales of medieval India.

The temples of Khajuraho are India’s unique gift to the world, representing love and joys of life in a sublime expression. Madhya Pradesh is also a shopper’s paradise with beautiful Maheshwari and Chanderi textiles and bell metal craft of Bastar. The state is home to three UNESCO World Heritage Sites namely Sanchi, Bhimbetka and Khajuraho. But perhaps the best part about Madhya Pradesh is its accessibility. It is served by direct flights from Kolkata, Bengaluru, Delhi, Mumbai, Ahmedabad, and Goa. Airlines such as Jet Airways and IndiGo offer regular flights to and from Indore Airport to various Indian cities. Additionally, Raja Bhoj International Airport (BHO) in Bhopal, Dumna Airport (JLR) in Jabalpur, Gwalior Airport (GWL), and Khajuraho Airport (HJR) also have scheduled flights to major cities in India. Due to its location, it’s better to take a flight from Bangalore to Madhya Pradesh.

By Train:

Most of the major trains including Rajdhani, Shatabdi, and Garib Rath expresses pass through MP due to its central location. The state has over 4,948-km long rail network, with Jabalpur serving as the headquarters for the West Central Railway Zone. The Central Railway and the Western Railway zones also cover parts of the state. The state has a total of 20 major railway junctions including stations at Satna, Ratlam, Indore, Bhopal, Jabalpur, Gwalior, and Khajuraho. Direct trains from Kolkata, Delhi, Mumbai, or Bangalore take about 12 hours to visit Madhya Pradesh.

By Road:

Madhya Pradesh is easily accessible by road from nearby states and cities. Interstate bus services are available from several cities and town. National and State highways connect Madhya Pradesh with all the neighboring states namely Gujarat, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand, Chattisgarh and Maharashtra. All the roads are well maintained and are flanked by the forts, religious sites and places that one can’t afford to miss. Buses of Madhya Pradesh Tourism are the best and the most trusted way to reach the major cities of the state.

Summer: (April to June)

MP is the largest state in India and it’s no wonder that weather and climate also vary in extreme. Summer season arrives late in March and the weather gets real hot during day time. This is the time to head to the hills. Pachmarhi is one of the most popular summer destinations in summer. Although, some would disagree, but if you are in for tiger spotting at one of the wildlife sanctuaries in Madhya Pradesh, March till June is the best time to do so. Head to Bandhavgarh, Kanha or Pench National Park to catch the royal predator at one of the watering holes to seek respite from the heat.

Monsoon: (July to September)

The scorching summers in Madhya Pradesh gives way to monsoon in July. The jungles of Satpura and the greenery all around replenishes the earth adding new vigor to the surrounding, although from holiday point of view, most of the places should be avoided, but there are a few destionations which are best visited during monsoon. The legendary Mandu, where Baz Bahadur once courted Rani Roopmati is one such destination. To enjoy the full intensity of rain, head to Chitrakoot, “the Niagara  Falls of India” which is at its full intensity and mightiest best during monsoon.

Winter: (October to March)

Monsoon draws to its close come September, paving way for a brief autumn followed by winter. This is the time to enjoy the tourist destinations and attractions in Madhya Pradesh. During winters, mercury level drops to as low as 5 degrees. During the day, sun is milder and weather remains pleasant, making it best time for local sightseeing tours. This is the ideal time to visit the most popular destination in Madhya Pradesh: The Group of Monuments at Khajuraho, better known as Khajuraho Temples. Sanchi is yet another UNESCO inscribed World Heritage Site that you should visit in MP. Cities like Bhopal, Indore, Gwalior are best visited during winters. Wildlife is yet another popular theme for winter holidays in Madhya Pradesh.
