Amritsar experiences summer season between April and July each year. The climate remains hot and dry throughout with the maximum temperature hovering around 40°C, and the minimum is about 27°C. Summer, therefore, apparently is not the season for tourists but the occasion of Baisakhi draws a lot of people to the city. Baisakhi is celebrated on the 13th day of April to celebrate the onset of Spring Season with traditional folk music, songs and dance.

In Monsoon (July – October)

Amritsar seldom experiences heavy showers during the monsoons which begin in July and go on till September/ mid-October. The average annual rainfall it receives is around 780 mm. The minimum temperature hovers around a pleasant 23°C, and the skies mostly remain cloudy/ overcast. However, when the sun is out, the peak temperature could touch 35°C, and of course, it gets humid. One may want to keep these things in mind before planning a trip to Amritsar in the monsoon season.

In Winter (November – March)

Winter begins in November and lasts in March. The season is usually extremely chilly, and the mercury level can drop as low as 4°C. Otherwise, the maximum temperature hovers around 21°C. December and January are the coldest months in Amritsar. The day-time temperature is perfect for exploring all the attractions in Amritsar like Golden Temple, the Jallianwala Bagh, Maharaja Ranjit Singh Museum, Durgiana Temple, Akal Takht or to go on an Amritsar Heritage Walk. If tourists are visiting this time around, they may want to witness one or all of the important festivals celebrated in the city. There?s Diwali in November. Ram Tirth Fair is celebrated a couple of weeks after Diwali where one can catch some good cultural and entertainment programs. January brings Basant Panchami and Lohri. The fair at Chheharta Sahib Gurudwara is a favourite attraction during Basant Panchami. The traditional and authentic celebration of Lohri must not be missed while visiting Amritsar in mid-January.
